Prof. Makoto Iwasaki

Makoto Iwasaki received the B.S., M.S., and Dr. Eng. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from Nagoya Institute of Technology, Nagoya, Japan, in 1986, 1988, and 1991, respectively. Since 1991, he has been with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology, where he is currently a Professor at the Department of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. As professional contributions of the IEEE, he has been an AdCom member of IES in term of 2010 to 2019, a Technical Editor for IEEE/ASME TMech from 2010 to 2014, an Associate Editor for IEEE TIE since 2014, a Management Committee member of IEEE/ASME TMech (Secretary in 2016 and Treasurer in 2017), a Co-Editors-in-Chief for IEEE TIE since 2016, a Vice President for Planning and Development in term of 2018 to 2019, respectively. He is IEEE fellow class 2015 for "contributions to fast and precise positioning in motion controller design". He has received the Best Paper Award of Trans of IEE Japan in 2013, the Best Paper Award of Fanuc FA Robot Foundation in 2011, the Technical Development Award of IEE Japan in 2017, the Nagamori Awards in 2017, the Ichimura Prize in Industry for Excellent Achievement of Ichimura Foundation for New Technology in 2018, the Technology Award of the Japan Society for Precision Engineering in 2018, and the Commendation for Science and Technology by the Japanese Minister of Education in 2019, respectively. His current research interests are the applications of control theories to linear/nonlinear modeling and precision positioning, through various collaborative research activities with industries.

Prof. Ir. Dr. Ab Halim Bin Abu Bakar
University of Malaya, Malaysia

Prof Dr Ab Halim Abu Bakar received the B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom in 1976, M.Eng. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Technology, Malaysia in 1996 and 2003 respectively. He spent 30 years of industrial experience with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) before joining University of Malaya. Prof Ir Dr Halim is a Fellow of the Institute of Engineers Malaysia, Member of IEEE, Cigre, Chartered Engineer (UK) and P.Eng (Malaysia). Currently he is a professor with the UM Power Dedicated Advanced Centre (UMPEDAC), University of Malaya, Malaysia. He is an established academician and a practical engineer. He has to-date published 75 ISI and 139 Scopus papers in journals and 47 papers in proceedings internationally. He has successfully supervised to completion 11 PhD, 3 master by research (M.Eng.Sc), 1 master of philosophy (M.Phil) and 34 Masters by course work project (M.Eng) and has Web of Science H index of 16 and Scopus H index of 18. He is also involved as a reviewer for several Web of Science international journals and several international conferences. Prof Ir Dr Halim won several excellent awards during his professional and academic carrier. In 2008 he won IEEE PES Malaysian Chapter Outstanding Engineering Award. His research interest includes power system protection and power system transients.

Prof. Osamu Tabata
Kyoto University, Japan

Osamu Tabata received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Nagoya Institute of Technology, Japan, in 1981 and 1993, respectively. In 1981, he joined the Toyota Central Research and Development Laboratories, Inc., Japan. In 1996, he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Ritsumeikan University, Japan. In 2003, he joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Kyoto University, Japan. Since April 2005, he has been a Professor in the Department of Micro Engineering, Kyoto University. He is currently engaged in research on micro/nano processes, MEMS, DNA nanotechnology and micro/nano system synthetic engineering.
He was a guest Professor of Institute of Microsystem Technology, University of Freiburg, Germany from September to December 2000, a guest Professor of ETH Zurich, Switzerland from January to March 2001, a visiting senior international scientists of the Chinese Academy of Science in 2010, a guest Professor of Huazong University of Science and Technology, China from July 2011 to July 2014, a senior research fellow at Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) from May 2010 to 2012 September. He is an associate editor of Journal of Micro Electro Mechanical Systems and an editorial board member of Sensors and Actuators. Also he is a program committee member of many International Conferences. He was honored with the Science News Award for research in "Monolithic pressure-flow sensor" in 1987, Presentation Paper Award for research in "Anisotropic etching of silicon in TMAH solutions" in 1992, R&D 100 Award for research in "Thin film Young's modulus measurement apparatus" in 1993 and R&D 100 Award for research in "Thin film Tensile Tester" in 1998, Best Poster Award of 19th Sensor Symposium on Sensors, Micromachines, and Applied Systems for “Determination of Optimal Mask Movement Pattern for Moving Mask Deep X-Ray Lithography“ in 2002, Best Patent Award from Ritsumeikan University for “Material Processing and its apparatus using X-ray Lithography” in 2004, and Best Presentation Award from Institute of Electrical Engineer Japan for research in “Highly- Sensitive Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy using Regularly Arrayed Gold Nanoparticle Dimers” in 2014 and “Development of Cs Vapor Cell Microfabricated with Porous Alumina Dispenser for Chip-Scale Atomic Clock “ in 2016, respectively. He is a member of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, Japan Institute of Electronics Packaging, senior member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

Prof. Dr. Mohd Hamdi Abdul Shukor
University of Malaya, Malaysia

M. Hamdi is a senior professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Malaya. He received his B.Eng. (Mechanical), from Imperial College, London and his M.Sc. In Advanced Manufacturing Technology & System Management from University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology (UMIST). His Doctoral study was in the field of thin film coating for biomedical applications for which he was conferred Dr. Eng by Kyoto University. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineering, UK and a Charted Engineer (C.Eng) with the UK Engineering Council. Professor Dr M. Hamdi has devoted his career in nurturing research and innovation and has mentored over 125 postgraduate students, particularly in the field of advanced machining, materials processing and surface engineering. He has authored more than 145 ISI journals and having a h-index of 20. He is also a director and founder of the Centre of Advanced Manufacturing & Materials Processing (AMMP Centre), in which has grown from modest-size team of researchers and engineers to an interdisciplinary research hub. Professor Dr M. Hamdi has obtained recognition from various international and local organizations.

Prof. Alvin Y. Chua
De La Salle University, Philippines

Dr. Alvin Y. Chua is a Professor and the Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Department of De La Salle University. He earned his BSME, MSME, and Ph.D. in ME at De La Salle University-Manila. As a scholar under the Department of Science and Technology-Engineering and Science Education Project (DOST-ESEP), he conducted his dissertation research at the University of New South Wales, Australia. He received a special citation for the 2003 NAST-DuPont Talent Search for Young Scientists (Mechanical Engineering). He was also awarded the 2015 Outstanding Student Adviser of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). He has published in several journal publications and international conferences like Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), and Advance Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM).
His current research interests are on Mechatronics, and UAV systems. In his Mechatornics research, he was able to work on researches that improved the intelligence of articulated and mobile robot systems. He was also able to apply Mechanttonics to improve the energy generation of renewable energy systems. In his UAV systems research, he dealt with control techniques (e.g. Fuzzy Logic, Kalman Filters) for rotorcrafts (e.g. quadcopter, octocopter) and blimps for improved mobility. Currently, he is working on applying UAV technologies to disaster management and inspection applications. He also received a government grant under DOST-PCIEERD entitled ”Development of a Flight Controller for a Modular UAV”
